W'ednesday June 5 2013 Lorraine Bestul Lorraine Marie Bestul, 84, of Bagley, died on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at The Garden Place in Bagley. Her funeral was held Monday, June 3, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bagley, with Pastor Victor Dora officiating. Interment was at the Bagley City Cemetery. Lorraine was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bagley. She was a member of the Irvin Blix American Legion Auxiliary Post #16 for over 50 years and proudly served a term as president during her membership. Lorraine was born on July 29, 1928. Her parents were Emil and Emma Void and she grew up with her only sibling, Bonnie (Traun). Lorraine lived all her early years in Golden Valley, Minn., and graduated from Robinsdale High School. Following her graduation her parents moved to Alida. Lorraine soon joined them and was employed as a dental assistant to Dr. Swanson. It was during this time that she met Bennie Bestul. It was "love at first sight" and the two were married on Dec. 6, 1947 at Grace Chapel in Minerva Township. Their good friends, Ed and Joyce Dahl, were married alongside of them at a double ring ceremony. (For 51 years the two couples would celebrate their anniversary together.) Lorraine was later employed as a telephone operator until the company went to the dial system. She then spent many years working for Dr. Ken Neujahr, Optometrist. In 1979, until her retirement in 1993, she was employed by the Bagley Elem. School as a paraprofessional and School Patrol advisor. Lorraine enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards. She had a special attachment to the dogs she raised over the years. Lorraine let kindness spread like sunshine and embraced those who needed a helping hand. She was always loving deeply, giving freely from her heart. Lorraine's greatest blessings were her family and friends. She is survived by two sons, Denny (Barb) Bestul of San Jose, Calif., Bob (Lisa) Bestul of Hibbing; and three daughters, Sherry (Bob) Young of Park Rapids, Cindi (Dave) Lee of Bagley, and Lorri (Tom) Swanum, of Duluth; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
